SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The General Service Technician reports directly to the Automotive Mechanic and Shop Manager. The Service Technician is responsible for keeping work areas clean and orderly, as well as performing general automotive services such as diagnostics, brakes, oil changes, etc. The Technician’s service functions are not as technical as those of a true Mechanic and this person would shadow the Mechanic as an apprentice, in order to master new skills and jobs as they are taught. As the associate demonstrates the ability to master basic automotive knowledge and skills, they would have the opportunity to take on more responsibility independently and could potentially grow into an Auto Mechanic.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
Complete system diagnostics & conduct full automotive troubleshooting and testing.
Perform vehicle road tests to accurately diagnose and repair vehicle. Vehicle will then be driven to access quality of completed work.
Perform assigned service tasks efficiently and accurately, asking questions when needed, though taking initiative to find answers independently with the resources available.
Communicate directly with Automotive Mechanic and/or Shop Manager regarding the status of the service work.
Clean and organize shop work area; sweep and clean work surfaces, store parts, empty and discard garbage, operate power-driven equipment such as air guns, torque wrenches, tire and balance machines, etc.
Continuously learn new technical information and techniques.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent
Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
Customer service skills are a must for this role. During interviews, technically qualified candidates must also demonstrate an ability to communicate politely and effectively in a professional setting.
One (1)+ year(s) of general automotive technician or mechanic experience preferred
Automotive technical or trade school degree preferred
Computer literacy preferred
Spanish language proficiency is a bonus
All applicants must pass pre-employment testing to include: background checks, MVR, and drug testing in order to qualify for employment. Tucker Chevron is a smoke free environment. Tattoos must be covered within the work setting.
